After my recent obsession with all things purple, I thought I’d introduce a colour series to my blog! I tend to change my current fave colour to use when doing my makeup throughout the year and this summer, it has 100% been purple.
As it’s my universities colour (and smothered around EVERYWHERE; chairs, walls, carpets) I never thought I’d be so excited about putting it on my face nearly every day. Yet here we are with 3 new products all in different shades of purple!
MAC Cosmetics – Men Love Mystery
I picked this bad boy up on my way through duty free (standard). I instantly fell in love with this shade. I know for some it may be bold, but that’s the exact reason why I bought it. I had Velvet Teddy in one hand and this stunning purple statement in the other. I feel like it’s not often that we venture out of our makeup comfort zones, and it can be bloody annoying when we do and it doesn’t work out. We’re forever going “I TOLD YOU SO” and cuddle back up in that safety blanket.
But purples seem to work for me, so I went for it. This lipstick is violet toned with a matte finish. It’s SO long wearing as I often wore it on nights out (plenty vodka cokes are consumed) and meals out on holiday with family (plenty carbonaras were consumed).
I don’t feel the need for a lip liner with this lipstick because the bold colour is enough of a statement for me just yet. It’s super creamy and doesn’t dry my lips out at all! I’m used to applying one or two coats with liquid lipsticks but normal lipsticks can take a while to build the colour up. However, this one only takes two coats and the pigmentation is incredible! Check it out here.
NYX Vivid Brights – Vivid Violet
I picked this up in my local boots store as soon as the NYX Cosmetics stands were set up. I’ve seen plenty youtubers get their hands on the WHOLE RANGE of vivid brights before they came to the UK and had my eye on the purple & blue tones. They retail at £5.99 each & you can get them here.
I’m aware that it comes up more blue than violet but the swatch below shows the true colour inside the bottle! This is perfect for days when you’re not wanting a full on smokey eye or you simply cba. Lashes & a purple wing can complete your look – especially if you’re a monochrome gal like myself! The applicator is AMAZING. I’m all for using a thin brush when doing wing liner and it’s super easy to use.
It also dries so quickly which is handy for someone who’s pretty messy with their liner. Not gonna lie.
NYX Slide On Pencil – Purple Blaze
Another NYX purchase is a purple pencil liner that has a metallic tone. This retails at £5.00 and I find it perfect for those wanting to test the water with their makeup before committing to bolder colours! Check it out here.
I like to use this underneath my lower lash line and use a smudging brush to blend the colour outwards. It applies well but can take a while for the pigmentation to build so have some patience while applying.
I feel like the metallic tones/glitter doesn’t quite come through as well as I had hoped for, but it helps to create a more subtle glam look and less in your face. On the plus side, it sharpens well and isn’t constantly snapping & breaking off like other eyeliners I own.
The range of purple shades that I have been loving this summer! What do you think? What’s your fave product I’ve mentioned? Or do you own any?!
I’m looking forward to the next colour I randomly get obsessed with, I have a feeling it’ll be autumnal themed! I’m excited about starting this series!
Love Life, Lexi!
