Hey lovelies!
To make up for no blog post on Sunday and a Boots Haul instead, I thought I’d do a midweek treat for ya! As you all know, I’ve gotten really stuck into my youtube channel and have become a little addicted. I’m still learning and continue to find new things to do whether it’s editing or filming – I love it!
If you’re new then HEY! I’m on youtube and here’s my channel if you wanted to check out some of my videos! (it’s still small but I’m getting there ok).
There’s been a few things that I’ve noticed about myself while vlogging/making videos and I thought I’d share them with you. It may be helpful to those who are already on a youtube journey or want to start! Leave me your channels in the comments!
1. What My Face Looks Like At EVERY Angle
There’s some areas of my face/body that I’ve never really seen before. Which is so weird considering I’ve lived in it for 21 years. Numerous times, I’ve seen a side to my face that I genuinely don’t recognise at times. It’s a pretty weird feeling, but you’ve just gotta roll with it. I mean, there’s nothing you can do about it really is there?
But you also find out which sides of your face you like and the more positive things about your self-image. I definitely have a favourite side of my face. I think it’s mainly because I prefer the eyebrow on that side. Am I the only one that has ‘a side’??
2. How Much I Can Talk
Jeez. No wonder I find some people zone out mid-conversation with me. I’ve started doing it when I’m editing my own conversations. I really need to chill lol. I’ve found that I ultimately say the same thing over and over just in a different way, great articulation I guess, but not when you’re editing. You’re there for what feels like a lifetime. A lifetime of hating the sound of your own voice lol.
3. How Often I ‘Zone Out’
Whilst editing, I’ve come across ridiculous snippets of footage. This includes me staring into space thinking about god knows what for a seriously worrying amount of time. The longest I’ve caught myself zoning out has to be for around a minute. I’ve sometimes included the footage because, if I’m honest, it’s quite funny and I look like I’m possessed. Look out for it! Do any of you do youtube and find footage that you don’t remember recording?!
4. To Be Yourself
Youtube is probably the closest you guys will get to knowing me. Like, the real me. Not blogging me or twitter me or snapchat me. Just ME. On youtube, there’s no hiding behind a screen which makes it pretty difficult to pretend to be someone you’re not.
I feel like when I’m at my most relaxed, I create the best content. Viewers can tell when you’re being genuine & I get most amazing comments about times in a video where I am 100% silly old me.
You can’t go wrong really. Unless you’re a class A douche. Maybe it could go wrong a little.
5. What I’m Currently Obsessing Over
You can also gage what kind of things you’re into at that moment in time. Over a few video’s, I’ve noticed I’ve bought items of a similar colour/style. I have a feeling this would be fun to look back on and see if I’m still into the same type of decor or if I look back in disgust and *facepalm*. I mean I’ve done that for nearly all of my previous actions so what’s stopping me now right?
Also, I seem to latch onto phrases/sayings like a baby monkey to it’s mum. It’s so annoying for me really, but I’m not sure if other’s have noticed/find it irritating…atm it’s “OH MY CHRIST” if something the tiniest bit shocking happens.
Anyone else over use a phrase?!
6. My Diet
If any of you have kept a food diary or blogged about it for that matter, then you’ll know the feeling. Vlogging your day makes you ten times more aware of what you’re eating and putting into your body. You can’t forget it either, you’ve documented it and it’s there for all to see.
It’s actually a really good motivator for eating healthily in my opinion! I’m more likely to cook a fresh, homemade wrap when vlogging to a) create better content b) show my healthier side which subsequently means I’m all round more healthy!
Think of it as My Fitness Pal, if anyone of you have used it, except with an audience of whoever and how ever many. You can’t control who see’s your videos, meaning anyone can see your diet.
7. My Accent
Well, I only just learnt that I HAD an accent. I seriously didn’t think I did. But when editing, I can hear hints of different places coming out. If you haven’t seen any of my vlogs, I’m not meaning a hint of spanish twang coming out. Nothing that exotic. I wish.
I’ve been told I have pinches of ‘essex’ness coming out as well as cockney and then just plain, normal english. Not sure how to feel about that but, as I said before, I can’t change it. Just hope that it doesn’t grate on people!
If you’ve seen my videos, what do you think about my accent?!
8. It Helps My Mental Health
Having something to focus on and someone to talk to throughout my day, has proven to really help with my mental health. I suffer with anxiety and at times, panic attacks. But youtube can really help me gain more confidence (even vlogging in public!?!), distract me from my stupid thoughts and give me somewhere to put my effort into.
I’m heading on holiday this Thursday and a trigger of my anxiety is flying. But if I’m vlogging and focussing on capturing the perfect shot for my vlog, I’m 100% certain the anxiety will disintegrate into the background. Have you found social media has helped with your mental health?
9. My Makeup Skills
Knowing you’re going to be on camera to potentially thousands of people (haven’t quite got there yet but yano what I mean) can really force you to up your makeup game! I vlog and film on a Canon G7X and I tell ya. The detail that lens picks up is SCARY.
Guess it’s a good thing I’m into my makeup!
10. What Works Best For Me
Following on from 9, a good lens will also tell you what works best for you. Whether it’s a certain outfit you were going for that day, colours against your skin, makeup looks…it’ll let you know if it wasn’t that hot. Something I’m thankful for!
So there’s just 10 things that youtube has taught me so far…Are you into youtube? Are you ON youtube? Leave me your channel links below & I’ll be sure to check it out!
Here’s a link to my channel too. As mentioned before, it’s not big, but I’m slowly building it up. Feel free to start a catch up with my vlogs by clicking here, taking you to my first EVER vlog!
Be sure to subscribe for me, give me a thumbs up if you enjoyed and basically be a GREAT person 🙂

Love Life, Lexi!
P.S As mentionned, I’m on holiday soon so there won’t be blog posts from me for a while. I’ll still be checking in though so be sure to spread the love as normal. Big love xx
I think you’ll you tube better than me – although I do want to have aplay – so I may come to you for advice. BTW – your accent, a bit of Spanish with some Essex? What’s going on – I’ll have to find out! 🙂

Hahaha no no no I didn’t mean it like that! I meant don’t expect to find an exotic accent like spanish…its more essex-y! Maybe I’ll reword that part haha.
Sure thing, I’m always here to answer any questions! Just go for it and see how you do – may be better than you think xx

Great post! I totally understand what you mean by seeing every angle or your face and talking too much. It’s crazy how much YouTube can really teach you about yourself, Even if you are just a viewer.

Haha it’s funny. My boyfriend filmed me as a practise to see how I would be as a vlogger. The amount of expression in my face, I don’t stop moving my eyebrows and everything else😂 x

I have seen your videos, but it is your this blog post that is kind of inspiring me to start my own youtube channel as well. The only thing is that I lack self-confidence. I fall into the loop of ‘How will people react? / Will I be able to do it? / Will people like it?’ Just too many questions, but I think I should look past that and go ahead with it, right? Lexi, you really are an inspiration. Thanks :* and keep youtubing!
